Unlike the majority of my art, which focuses on the light (colour, joy, happiness), this piece is about the darker side of life. It’s an acknowledgment of the shadow. Striving to always be happy is not the goal. The goal, instead, is to be able to embrace the good and bad, and to befriend each in equal measure. In our existence as humans, pain is inevitable - but suffering is a choice. How many times I’ve realised that I can overcome my misery by just acknowledging it as another experience. Rejecting the ‘bad’ label, and embracing it as just my current experience.
